The Pearl

The creation of a pearl is truly a miraculous event. Unlike gemstones that are mined from the earth, pearls are grown within living oysters deep within their bodies and deep below the sea. Gemstones are manipulated by man to bring out their beauty.  They are cut and polished to our liking.  Pearls need no such treatment to reveal their loveliness.  They are perfect exactly as they are with their natural iridescence and soft inner glow.

Each and every one of us has a pearl waiting to be discovered deep within our soul lodged somewhere in the midst of our childhood wounds.  Pearls begin their life as a foreign object, such as a parasite or piece of shell that intentionally lodges itself in an oyster’s soft inner body where it can’t be expelled.  In a defensive gesture to try and ease the irritant the oyster begins to secrete a smooth, hard crystalline substance.  Eventually over time, layer upon layer, the irritant will be completely encased by the silky crystalline coating. And as a result, the lovely and lustrous gem we call a pearl is born.

Just like a pearl our memories reflect light.  Memories reflect the truth of feelings.  Our feelings are always non-negotiable and perfect exactly as they are.  We can spend our whole life trying to expel painful memories and/ or experiences but at the end of day we carry them with us as pearls.  Here’s the secret I tell people.  Pearls or your memories come out of the shell exactly how the jeweler will display them.  You can’t change the shape of them like you can gold, or diamonds, which are cut and faceted.  We can’t cut away difficult memories or smooth their harsh edges.   We can however, showcase the beauty that lies in the truth of your history.

The memories you perceive as wrong or bad are actually just pearls waiting to be discovered and worn.  When you allow your past and your present to converge in the beauty of your pearl you will literally light up and begin to glow with the natural luminescence of your truth.

As we work together you will begin to notice your inner light and truth reflecting itself in your outer appearance.  Your eyes may begin to sparkle more than they have in years.  Excess weight will melt away as the pearl within you no longer needs to protect itself.

Everyone spends so much time and energy hiding their pearls.  Why?  Why do we do this?  I think we’re afraid that others may not see our pearl as beautiful.  The exact opposite is true.  We stand in awe when someone speaks of their truth.  The truth is beautiful and unique to its holder.  The truth will not cease to exist because it’s ignored.  Allow yourself to excavate a strand of pearls.  Stand proud as your life begins to take form.  Wear your perfect pearl with pride and honor for there is no other pearl quite like yours.
